How it's calculated
Decimal units use powers of 1000 (1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes). Binary units use powers of 1024 (1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes). 1 byte = 8 bits.

Why does my 1 TB drive show about 931 GB?
Drive makers use decimal TB (10¹² bytes) while many operating systems count in binary GiB (2³⁰ bytes). 10¹² bytes ÷ 1,073,741,824 ≈ 931 GiB.
How many MB are in a GB?
1,000 MB in decimal units, or 1,024 MiB in a GiB in binary units.
What is the difference between a bit and a byte?
A byte is 8 bits. Internet speeds are usually quoted in bits (Mbps) and file sizes in bytes (MB).
