Data Transfer Rate Converter
Convert internet and transfer speeds between Mbps, Gbps, MB/s and more — see what a connection speed means in file terms.
How to use
- 1Enter a speed and pick its unit (bits or bytes per second).
- 2Pick the target unit.
How it's calculated
Converts through bits per second. 1 byte = 8 bits, so 100 Mbps = 12.5 MB/s.
Frequently asked questions
Is 100 Mbps the same as 100 MB/s?
No. Mbps is megabits per second; MB/s is megabytes per second. Divide Mbps by 8 to get MB/s, so 100 Mbps is 12.5 MB/s.
How long will a 1 GB file take at 100 Mbps?
About 80 seconds in theory (1 GB = 8,000 megabits ÷ 100). Real downloads are slower because of overhead.
Why do ISPs quote speeds in bits?
Network links are measured in bits per second by convention, while files are measured in bytes.
