What is PDF/A?
An ISO standard (ISO 19005) for archiving: the file must be self-contained — embedded fonts, a defined color profile, standard metadata — and free of scripts, so it displays the same way decades from now. Courts, governments and universities often require it.
Why would the keep-text method not be compliant?
PDF/A requires every font to be embedded. If the original PDF only references a font (common with old Office exports), it can't be added without the font file. The tool tells you, and the image method always produces a compliant file.
Which should I choose, 2b or 3b?
PDF/A-2b is the most widely accepted. PDF/A-3b is the same but allows attached files (such as XML in e-invoices).
