How to use
- 1Enter the amount and today's mid-market rate (from our Currency Converter).
- 2Enter each provider's fee and the rate they offer.
- 3See what the recipient gets and the total cost of each.
How it's calculated
Hidden markup = (mid-market rate − provider rate) ÷ mid-market rate. Recipient gets (amount − fee) × provider rate. Total cost = fee + markup × (amount − fee), in the sending currency.
Frequently asked questions
What is the mid-market rate?
The midpoint between buy and sell prices on currency markets — what you see on Google or Reuters. Providers that offer it and charge a clear fee are usually cheapest.
Are SEPA transfers in euros free?
Euro transfers within the SEPA area must cost the same as a domestic euro transfer, which is often free. Costs mostly arise when converting currency.
What's a typical bank markup?
Often 2–5% on top of any fee. Specialist transfer services usually charge 0.3–1.5% in total.
