Passphrase Generator
Create memorable random passphrases like 'Brave-Otter-Lunar-Maple-42' — easier to type than random passwords and just as strong.
How to use
- 1Choose the number of words, separator and extras.
- 2Generate, then pick a passphrase you find easy to remember.
How it's calculated
Entropy = words × log₂(254) plus log₂(100) for the optional number. Words are picked uniformly with a cryptographic random generator.
Frequently asked questions
Are passphrases secure?
Yes, if the words are chosen randomly. Five random words from our 254-word list give about 40 bits; use 6–7 words for important accounts, or a larger list like EFF's for master passwords.
Why are passphrases easier to remember?
Your brain remembers a few words as a mental picture far more easily than 16 random symbols of similar strength.
Should I choose my own words instead?
No. People pick predictable words and phrases. Randomly generated words are what make a passphrase strong.
