How it's calculated
DPI is stored as a tag (JFIF density in JPEG, pHYs in PNG). Print size = pixels ÷ DPI.
Frequently asked questions
Does changing DPI improve quality?
No — DPI only tells printers how big to print. Quality depends on the pixel count; a small image at 300 DPI just prints small.
Why do forms ask for 300 DPI?
Printers need about 300 pixels per inch for sharp output. Check the print size shown for each file.
Can I increase the pixels?
Use the resize tool for that — but enlarging can't add real detail.
