How do I type accents on a Windows keyboard?
Hold Alt and type the four-digit code on the number pad, e.g. Alt+0233 for é. Num Lock must be on.
How do I type accents on a Mac?
Press and hold the letter key to see accent choices, or use Option shortcuts such as Option+E then E for é.
Why do some characters have no Alt code?
Windows Alt+0 codes only cover the Windows-1252 character set. Others need the Character Map or a different keyboard layout.
