How it's calculated
Around 250 of the most common words (hai, nahi, kya, mohabbat…) are looked up in a dictionary because Urdu spelling isn't fully phonetic. Other words are converted sound by sound: kh → خ, sh → ش, aa → ا/آ, ee → ی, final e → ے, and so on. Punctuation becomes Urdu punctuation (۔ ، ؟).
Frequently asked questions
Why is a word spelled slightly wrong?
Roman Urdu can't show which Urdu letter is meant — 's' could be س, ص or ث; 'z' could be ز, ذ, ض or ظ. The converter uses the most common letter; correct rare words by hand.
Can I get Urdu numerals?

Does it translate English to Urdu?
