Personal Injury Settlement Calculator
Estimate a personal injury settlement range using the multiplier method — medical bills, lost wages and property damage, times a pain-and-suffering multiplier — adjusted for your share of fault, policy limits and attorney's fees.

How to use
- 1Enter your economic losses (medical bills, lost income, property damage).
- 2Choose the injury severity and your share of fault.
- 3See a settlement range and what you'd take home after fees.
How it's calculated
Economic damages = medical + lost wages + property damage + future costs. Pain and suffering = medical costs × multiplier (1.5 minor to 5 severe). Total is reduced by your fault percentage, capped at the insurance policy limit, then attorney's fees (typically 33⅓%) and case costs are deducted.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is the multiplier method?
It's a rough starting point that insurers and lawyers use. Real settlements depend on evidence, liability, jurisdiction, the insurer, and how strong your case is at trial.
What if I was partly at fault?
Most states reduce damages by your percentage of fault. A few (Alabama, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and DC) bar recovery if you were even slightly at fault; others bar it at 50% or 51%.
Is a settlement taxable?
In the US, compensation for physical injuries is generally not taxable; punitive damages and interest are.
