Cooling-Off Period & Right to Cancel Calculator

Work out the last day to cancel a purchase and get a refund — the 14-day right of withdrawal for online and off-premises purchases in the EU and UK, and the US FTC 3-day Cooling-Off Rule for door-to-door sales.

How to use

  1. 1Choose where you bought and the type of purchase.
  2. 2Enter the delivery date (goods) or contract date (services).
  3. 3See your last day to cancel and how to do it.

How it's calculated

EU: 14 days after the day of delivery (goods) or contract (services); if the last day is a Saturday or Sunday it moves to the next working day. UK: 14 days after the day of delivery or contract. US FTC rule: until midnight of the third business day after the sale (Saturdays count; Sundays and federal holidays don't).

Frequently asked questions

What can't I cancel?

Common exceptions: personalised or perishable goods, sealed hygiene items once unsealed, sealed audio/video/software once opened, digital content you started downloading after agreeing to lose the right, and services fully performed with your consent.

How fast must I be refunded?

EU/UK: within 14 days of cancelling (the seller can wait until the goods are back or you show proof of return). US FTC rule: within 10 days of cancellation.

Does this apply to in-store purchases?

No — the legal right is for online, phone, mail-order and off-premises sales. In-store returns depend on the shop's own policy (unless the item is faulty).
