Frequently asked questions
What counts as a conflict?
A mark that's identical or confusingly similar — in sound, look or meaning — for related goods or services. Different classes can still conflict if the products are related.
Do I need to register a trademark?
Not to use a name, but registration gives much stronger rights: nationwide (or EU-wide) protection, the ® symbol, and easier enforcement against copycats.
How much does registering cost?
USPTO: $350 per class (base application, 2025 fee schedule). EUIPO: €850 for one class online. UK IPO: £170 for one class online. Check each office's current fees.
