Frequently asked questions
Where do these sleep totals come from?
Total sleep ranges follow the American Academy of Sleep Medicine consensus (endorsed by the AAP) and the National Sleep Foundation for newborns.
What is a wake window?
The time a baby can comfortably stay awake between sleeps. Wake windows are practical guidance from pediatric sleep practice, not strict rules.
When do babies drop naps?
Most go from 3 to 2 naps around 6–9 months, to 1 nap around 12–18 months, and stop napping between 3 and 5 years.
