How it's calculated
Profit = shares × (sell − buy) − commissions. Return = profit ÷ (shares × buy + buy commission).
Frequently asked questions
Does this include tax?
No. In the US, gains on shares held over a year are taxed at long-term rates (0/15/20%); shorter holdings at income tax rates.
What's the break-even price?
The sell price at which you cover the buy price plus both commissions.
Can I use it for short selling?
Enter the price you sold short as the buy price and the price you covered at as the sell price, then flip the sign.
