DNA / RNA Sequence Tools

Reverse-complement, complement, transcribe and translate DNA or RNA sequences, and get the length, GC content and base counts.

How to use

  1. 1Paste a DNA or RNA sequence (FASTA headers and spaces are ignored).
  2. 2Choose the operation — the result updates instantly.

How it's calculated

Complement: A↔T (A↔U in RNA), G↔C. Transcription replaces T with U. Translation reads codons from the first base using the standard genetic code (* = stop). GC content = (G + C) ÷ length.

Frequently asked questions

Which reading frame is used for translation?

Frame 1 — starting at the first base. Trim the sequence to your start codon (ATG) to translate a specific ORF.

What does * mean in the protein?

A stop codon (TAA, TAG or TGA).

Are ambiguous bases like N supported?

They're kept as N in complements and give X in translations.
