How it's calculated
NOAA-style sunrise equation: the Sun's declination and the equation of time from the date, then the hour angle where the Sun's center is 0.833° below the horizon (accounting for refraction and the Sun's radius).

How accurate are the times?
Usually within about a minute. Terrain, elevation and atmospheric conditions can shift what you actually see.
Why is there no sunrise sometimes?
Above the Arctic or Antarctic Circle, the Sun can stay up (midnight sun) or down (polar night) for days.
What is solar noon?
When the Sun is highest in the sky — halfway between sunrise and sunset, rarely exactly 12:00 on the clock.
