Chord Finder (Notes in Any Chord)
See the notes in any chord — major, minor, 7th, maj7, sus, dim, aug, 9ths and more — with correct spelling and intervals, for guitar, piano and ukulele.
How to use
- 1Pick a root note and a chord type.
- 2See the notes, the intervals, and the formula.
How it's calculated
Each chord type is a set of intervals above the root — e.g. major = root, major 3rd (4 semitones), perfect 5th (7). Notes are spelled with the correct letter for each interval (so D♭ minor is D♭–F♭–A♭).
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between C7 and Cmaj7?
C7 (dominant) has a flat 7th (B♭), giving a bluesy tension. Cmaj7 has a natural 7th (B) and sounds dreamy and smooth.
What is a power chord?
Just the root and 5th (e.g. C5 = C–G). With no 3rd it's neither major nor minor, which suits distorted guitar.
Why is a note written as F♭ instead of E?
Correct spelling keeps one of each letter in order — a minor 3rd above D♭ is F♭, even though it sounds the same as E.
