Pitch is detected with a normalized autocorrelation of the microphone signal. Cents = 1200 × log2(frequency ÷ target).

What about ukulele?
Standard (re-entrant) ukulele tuning is G4 C4 E4 A4.
Why is the reading jumpy?
Pluck firmly, let the note ring, and reduce background noise. Tune in a quiet room close to the mic.
