How it's calculated
Vocals are usually mixed in the center (identical in both channels). Subtracting left and right cancels them; the center's low frequencies are added back so bass and kick drum remain.

Why are some vocals still audible?
Reverb and backing vocals are often mixed in stereo, so they don't cancel. AI stem separation gives cleaner results.
Why does it need stereo?
The trick relies on comparing left and right channels; mono files have nothing to cancel.
Can I get just the vocals?
