Coffee Ratio Calculator

Get the right coffee-to-water ratio for pour-over, drip, French press, AeroPress, espresso or cold brew — grams of coffee for any cup size, or water for your dose.

How to use

  1. 1Choose your brew method (or a custom ratio).
  2. 2Enter how much coffee you want to make, or how much ground coffee you have.

How it's calculated

Coffee (g) = water (g) ÷ ratio. Typical ratios: pour-over 1:16, drip 1:17, French press 1:15, AeroPress 1:12, espresso 1:2 (output), cold brew concentrate 1:5.

Frequently asked questions

What's the 'golden ratio' for coffee?

The Specialty Coffee Association's guideline is about 55 g of coffee per litre of water, roughly 1:18; many people prefer 1:15–1:17.

Why weigh coffee instead of using scoops?

Bean density varies by roast, so weight is far more consistent than volume.

How much does a cup hold?

A standard coffee 'cup' in brewer markings is often 5–6 fl oz (150–180 ml), not a full 8 oz measuring cup.
