Menopause Symptom Checker (Menopause Rating Scale)

Rate 11 common menopause symptoms with the validated Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) and see your overall severity plus somatic, psychological and urogenital scores — a useful summary to take to your doctor.

For general information only — not medical advice. Results are estimates; talk to a doctor or qualified health professional about your own health.

How to use

  1. 1For each symptom, choose how much it has bothered you recently.
  2. 2See your total score and the three sub-scores.
  3. 3Share the result with your GP or gynaecologist to discuss treatment options.

How it's calculated

Each of the 11 items scores 0 (none) to 4 (very severe). Somatic = items 1, 2, 3, 11; psychological = items 4–7; urogenital = items 8–10. Total 0–4 none/minimal, 5–8 mild, 9–16 moderate, 17+ severe.

Frequently asked questions

Can this tell me if I'm in menopause?

No. Menopause is diagnosed after 12 months without a period (usually around 51). The scale measures how much symptoms affect you, which helps you and your doctor decide what to do.

What treatments help?

Options include hormone replacement therapy (HRT), non-hormonal medicines for hot flushes, vaginal oestrogen for dryness, CBT for mood and sleep, and lifestyle changes. A doctor can go through the benefits and risks for you.

Is the MRS validated?

Yes — it's a standardised questionnaire used in research and clinics in many countries to measure menopause-related quality of life.
