Pupillary Distance (PD) Measurer — Measure PD from a Photo

Measure your pupillary distance (PD) for ordering glasses online, using a photo of yourself holding a standard bank or ID card for scale. Click the card edges and your pupils — the photo never leaves your device.

How to use

  1. 1Take a straight-on photo (arm's length) looking at the camera, with a bank or ID card held flat against your forehead, magnetic stripe facing out.
  2. 2Upload it, then click the card's left edge, right edge, your left pupil and your right pupil.
  3. 3Repeat with 2–3 photos and use the average. Typical adult PD is 54–74 mm.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is this?

Usually within 1–2 mm if the card is flat, level with your eyes and you look straight at the camera from at least 40 cm away. For strong prescriptions or progressive lenses, ask your optician to measure.

Single PD or dual PD?

Single PD is the distance between pupils. Dual (monocular) PD is each pupil to the centre of the nose bridge — click the bridge too to get it.

Why a card?

Standard bank and ID cards (ISO/IEC 7810 ID-1) are exactly 85.60 mm wide, giving a known scale for the photo.
