How it's calculated
Foot length (US sizing): men ≈ (size + 22) ÷ 3 inches, women ≈ (size + 21) ÷ 3 inches. Height ≈ foot length ÷ 0.152 (men) or ÷ 0.150 (women); typical error about ±7%.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is this?
Not very — foot length explains only part of the variation in height. Forensic studies get within a few centimetres using measured bones and population-specific formulas; shoe size adds more error.
Why does shoe size vary between brands?
Sizing standards and lasts differ, so the same foot can be a size apart between brands. Measure your foot heel-to-toe for a better estimate.
What about children?
Children's proportions change as they grow, so this estimate is for adults only.
