Mean, Median & Mode Calculator

Paste a list of numbers to get the mean, median, mode, range, sum, standard deviation, variance and quartiles instantly.

How to use

  1. 1Paste or type numbers separated by commas, spaces or new lines.
  2. 2All the summary statistics update as you type.

How it's calculated

Mean = Σx ÷ n. Median = middle value of the sorted list (average of the two middle values when n is even). Sample SD uses n − 1; population SD uses n. Quartiles use the median-of-halves method.

Frequently asked questions

Mean or median — which is better?

The median resists outliers. For incomes or house prices, where a few huge values skew the average, the median is more representative.

Sample or population standard deviation?

Use the population value if your list is the whole group. Use the sample value (dividing by n − 1) if it's a sample from a larger group.

What if there's no single mode?

If several values tie for most frequent, all are listed. If every value appears once, there's no mode.
