Weighted GPA Calculator (Honors & AP)

Calculate unweighted and weighted high school GPA — adding 0.5 for honors and 1.0 for AP/IB courses — from letter grades and credits.

How to use

  1. 1List each course as 'grade credits type' — type is reg, hon or ap (e.g. 'A 1 ap').
  2. 2See both unweighted (4.0 scale) and weighted GPA.

How it's calculated

Grade points: A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, F = 0 (± adjust by 0.3). Weighted adds +0.5 for honors and +1.0 for AP/IB (common, but school policies vary). GPA = Σ(points × credits) ÷ Σ credits.

Frequently asked questions

Do colleges use weighted or unweighted GPA?

Many recalculate GPA their own way. Reporting both, with course rigor visible, is standard on transcripts.

Does an F in an AP class get a bonus?

Most schools give no weighting to failing grades; this calculator follows that.

My school adds different bonuses — can I change them?

Adjust the honors and AP bonus fields to match your school's policy.
