How it's calculated
Weighted average = Σ(year average × year weight) ÷ Σ weights. First ≥ 70, 2:1 ≥ 60, 2:2 ≥ 50, Third ≥ 40. Many universities also consider borderline rules and your best credits.
Frequently asked questions
Does first year count?
At most English universities first year doesn't count toward the classification. Scottish and some other universities differ — check your regulations.
What is a borderline?
Marks just below a boundary (often within 1–2%) may be raised if most of your final-year credits are in the higher band — rules vary.
What about integrated master's degrees?
Four-year MEng/MSci degrees often weight the third and fourth years. Enter the weights from your programme handbook.
