Shipping Cost & Dimensional Weight Calculator

Find the billable weight of a parcel (actual vs dimensional weight) for UPS, FedEx, DHL and USPS, and estimate shipping cost from a carrier's rate per pound or kilogram.

Results are estimates for planning; real-world values vary.

How to use

  1. 1Enter the box dimensions and actual weight.
  2. 2Choose the carrier's divisor (or enter your own).
  3. 3Enter the rate per lb/kg from your carrier to estimate the cost.

How it's calculated

Dimensional weight = length × width × height ÷ divisor (139 for UPS/FedEx/DHL domestic in inches and pounds; 166 for USPS; 5,000 cm³/kg for most international). Billable weight = the larger of actual and dimensional weight, rounded up.

Frequently asked questions

Why am I charged for more than the parcel weighs?

Carriers charge for the space a light but bulky box takes up. If the dimensional weight is higher than the actual weight, you pay for the dimensional weight.

How can I reduce shipping costs?

Use the smallest box that fits, avoid empty space, consider poly mailers for soft goods, and compare flat-rate options.

Does USPS use dimensional weight?

Yes, for Priority Mail and Ground Advantage parcels larger than 1 cubic foot (1,728 cubic inches), with a divisor of 166.
