How it's calculated

Eurostat figures for 1 January 2026, in euros per month (countries paying 14 salaries a year are converted to 12). Hourly ≈ monthly × 12 ÷ 52 ÷ 40 hours.

Austria, Denmark, Finland, Italy and Sweden — wages are set by sector collective agreements, which cover most workers.

What does the EU minimum wage directive require?

The 2022 directive requires adequate statutory minimum wages (with reference values like 60% of the median wage) where they exist, and pushes for 80% collective bargaining coverage. The EU Court of Justice upheld most of it in November 2025.
