How it's calculated
PAYE: 20% up to €44,000 (single; €48,000 single parent; €53,000 married one income), 40% above, minus credits (personal €2,000 / married €4,000 + employee €2,000). USC (income over €13,000): 0.5% to €12,012, 2% to €28,700, 3% to €70,044, 8% above. PRSI: 4.2% Jan–Sep, 4.35% from 1 Oct 2026.

What changed in Budget 2026?
The 2% USC band was widened to €28,700 in line with the minimum wage increase. Income tax bands and main credits were unchanged, and PRSI rises to 4.35% from October 2026.
Do pension contributions reduce tax?
Yes — they reduce income tax (up to age-related limits) but not USC or PRSI.
What about married couples with two incomes?
The standard rate band can be increased by up to €35,000 (to €88,000) for the second earner. Calculate each earner separately using the married one-income band as a guide, or ask Revenue.
