Frequently asked questions
How do I check my band?
Search your address on GOV.UK's 'Check your council tax band' service (England and Wales) or the Scottish Assessors site.
Can I challenge my band?
Yes — through the Valuation Office Agency if you think it's wrong (for example, similar neighbouring homes are in a lower band). Your band could also go up, so check comparable homes first.
Who pays less?
Single adults (25% off), full-time students (exempt), people with severe mental impairment, and low-income households through council tax reduction schemes.
