How it's calculated
Net = gross − Lohnsteuer − Soli − Kirchensteuer − employee social insurance (pension 9.3%, unemployment 1.3% up to €8,450/month; health 7.3% + half the Zusatzbeitrag and care 1.8% (+0.6% childless) up to €5,812.50/month). Tax uses the 2026 § 32a tariff on income after the €1,230 employee allowance and the Vorsorgepauschale.
Frequently asked questions
Which tax class should I choose?
I: single. II: single parent. III/V: married, when one partner earns much more (III for the higher earner). IV/IV: married with similar incomes. The final annual tax is the same — classes only change monthly withholding.
What changed in 2026?
The basic allowance rose to €12,348, the soli exemption to €20,350 of income tax, the pension ceiling to €8,450/month, the health ceiling to €5,812.50/month, and the average health Zusatzbeitrag to 2.9%.
How accurate is this?
Within a few euros a month for typical employees. Payroll uses the official Lohnsteuer program (PAP) with detailed rules, so small differences are normal.
