Frequently asked questions
When does the UK state pension age rise to 67?
Gradually between 2026 and 2028, for people born on or after 6 April 1960. A further rise to 68 is legislated for 2044–2046 and under review.
What does 'linked to life expectancy' mean?
In countries like Denmark, the Netherlands, Italy and Finland, the pension age rises automatically as life expectancy increases.
Can I retire earlier?
Many countries allow early retirement with a reduced pension, or with a long contribution record (for example after 45 years in Germany). Private and workplace pensions often have their own ages.
