Quarterly Estimated Tax Calculator 2026
Work out your 2026 quarterly estimated tax payments — using the safe-harbor rules (100%/110% of last year or 90% of this year) to avoid underpayment penalties — with every due date.
Estimates only — not tax advice. Tax rules change and depend on your situation; check with the tax authority or a tax professional.
How to use
- 1Enter this year's expected income and tax withheld.
- 2Enter last year's total tax and AGI (from your 2025 Form 1040).
- 3Pay the recommended amount by each due date.
How it's calculated
Required annual payment = the smaller of 90% of 2026 tax, or 100% of 2025 tax (110% if 2025 AGI was over $150,000; $75,000 married filing separately). Quarterly payment = (required − withholding) ÷ 4.
Frequently asked questions
When are 2026 estimated payments due?
April 15, 2026; June 15, 2026; September 15, 2026; and January 15, 2027.
Do I need to pay estimated tax?
Generally yes, if you expect to owe $1,000 or more after withholding and credits — common with freelance, rental or investment income.
What is the safe harbor?
If you pay at least 100% of last year's tax (110% for higher earners) through withholding and estimates, you won't owe an underpayment penalty — even if you owe more when you file.
