How it's calculated
Weekly pay = hourly rate × hours (with 1.5× for hours over 40). Yearly = weekly × 52. Where a state rate is below $7.25, the federal minimum applies to most jobs.

Where is the minimum wage highest?
Washington, DC ($18.40), then Washington State ($17.13), New York City and area ($17.00), Connecticut ($16.94) and California ($16.90). Many cities set higher local rates.
Are tipped workers paid less?
