How it's calculated
SMP: 6 weeks at 90% of average weekly earnings, then 33 weeks at £194.32 or 90% of earnings if lower. SPP: 2 weeks at £194.32 or 90% if lower. Shared Parental Pay: up to 37 weeks at £194.32 or 90% if lower. You need average earnings of at least £129 a week (the lower earnings limit).

Who qualifies for SMP?
Employees who've worked for the same employer for 26 weeks by the 15th week before the due date and earn at least £129 a week on average. Otherwise you may get Maternity Allowance from Jobcentre Plus.
Is maternity pay taxed?
Yes, SMP and SPP are taxed and have National Insurance deducted like normal pay.
